Raised in Winnsboro, Louisiana, Chris was always around animals. As a kid, he raised calves on the bottle and had many horses, dogs, and cats. His parents, Jim and Wilma Sullivan, were owners of Sullivan’s Feed and Western Store in Winnsboro.
Building on his love of animals, Chris worked for Gowan Veterinary Clinic throughout high school. He graduated from Winnsboro High School 1986 and married Dee Mulkey Sullivan (also from Winnsboro) on July 30, 1988.
Chris graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1991 with a degree in animal science. He graduated from LSU Veterinary School in 1994. Chris was awarded The Upjohn Award for Proficiency in Veterinary Clinical Medicine from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine on April 22, 1994, given to the student who has demonstrated outstanding diligence and proficiency in The Companion Animal Clinic.
Why did Dr. Sullivan want to become a veterinarian? He says it’s simply because he loves animals. Not only does he love animals, but also he is deeply committed to his hometown of Winnsboro. Today, Dr. Sullivan’s community involvement includes the following:
The Sullivan’s children are Christopher, a sophomore at Mississippi College; teenagers Ryan, Kyle, and Michael; and elementary student Mary Beth. All the Sullivan children have attended Franklin Academy in Winnsboro.
Pets are a given in the Sullivan household. Currently they include Gracie, a mini schnauzer; Nala, a Siberian husky; Belle, a chocolate lab; cats Prince, Snowball, Stripes, and Calico Woman, who live outside and hunt mice and snakes; and Dirtclod, a miniature horse.
Winnsboro native and 2004 Franklin Academy graduate Laura Little is fulfilling a life-long dream. Though many of her days at Franklin Academy were spent playing softball or basketball, Laura always knew her career would be as a veterinarian. She has not only achieved becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, but to her utter surprise, she will be treating animals in her home town.
Laura received her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University. Upon graduation in 2008 with a degree in Animal Science and a minor in Biological Sciences, Little was accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Laura completed her clinical year of studies at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Laura says, "The clinical year was grueling, but one of the best years of school in my life."
When she obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011, she thought she would be practicing in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, but never thought coming home to Franklin Parish would be an option. Laura was impressed by the high quality of medicine and devotion to patient care displayed during her interviews with Dr. Chris Sullivan of Sullivan Veterinary Clinic and when offered the job, she jumped at the chance to join the Sullivan Veterinary Clinic team in Winnsboro, Louisiana. In October 2011, Little officially joined the Sullivan Veterinary Clinic as one of their full time veterinarians and will be practicing on both large and small animals.
"If you would have asked me if I would be in the Franklin Parish area the rest of my life, I would have never believed it was possible. I love being back in the area and practicing in my hometown. I've enjoyed seeing friends, family and acquaintances from growing up in the area. It has also been an opportunity to continue a family tradition of serving the community using the skills God has blessed me with" says Little.
Laura says she enjoys working with many different types of animals from dogs and cats to horses and cattle to birds and exotic species. Veterinary medicine is such a broad field with so many medical and surgical advances being made each day that working in an environment like Sullivan Veterinary Clinic where the latest technology and innovative techniques are being used is really a dream come true.
Laura was recently married to Justin Wooley of Bastrop, Louisiana. They have two dogs, Bella and Duke, and a rabbit, Snow Belle.
Dr. Franklin earned a BS in animal science from Louisiana Tech University and her DVM from LSU in 1985. She has been married to her husband, Bibb, for almost 23 years. All of their children wear fur coats and have 4 legs. Their cats are Chester, Lizzie Borden, Junior, and Itty Bitty Kitty. She enjoys riding her horses, JoJo and Sam, as well as deer hunting in her spare time.
Dr. Guidry was born in Lafayette, and raised in nearby Sunset, Louisiana. He attended high school at the Episcopal School of Acadiana in Cade, Louisiana, graduating in 1999. He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2004. Similar to his father, a Medical Doctor, and his sister, a Registered Nurse, William has always been interested in science and medicine. After a few years of working in Oil & Gas records research in many of the Parish Courthouses around the state, he returned to his studies to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine.
He attended the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May, 2012. His major area of concentration while attending veterinary school was companion (small) animal medicine. While attending LSU SVM, he also gained some experience in exotic and equine medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Guidry enjoys camping, canoeing, and reading. He moved to Winnsboro with his Terrier mix, Fen, to join the team at Sullivan Veterinary Clinic in October 2012.
